"Into The Wild", the call of the fauna
From the turn of the 20th century, the jeweled fauna populates the stylistic repertoire of Cartier: birds, insects, reptiles, elephants, felines, not to mention the sovereign Panther from 1948 onwards.
The brand is now embarking on a new chapter with its ‘Into the Wild’ collection. At the heart of the Faune et Flore range is a gallery of animal portraits: 16 pieces, including five striking, stylised rings featuring the heads of a tiger, a parrot, a carp, a crocodile and a rhinoceros, ready to gently ‘bite’ the finger. Each piece follows a distinct color scheme and embodies the essence of the maison 's craftsmanship. On the crocodile and tiger necklaces and bracelets, the head remains faithful to the animal's anatomy while the body, fully articulated, dissolves into a graphic motif. Diamonds and onyx studs for the former, pavé-set diamonds, stingray and dumortierite quartz links, and sapphires punctuated by chalcedony balls for the latter. On each, the clasp, hidden in the mouth, dramatically closes the animal around the wrist or neck by biting the back of the piece. The majestic and iconic Panther head finally reveals itself on a bangle bracelet, adorned with an immaculate coat that alternates between shagreen-style and caviar-style pavé. Its emerald eyes are haloed by a fur setting, evoking the animal's fur rather admirably. Eight pieces complete the collection: two pairs of Panther earrings and a Panther necklace, a Panther bracelet and a jeweled Panther watch, animalistic hairpins, and a mini bag.
