Why is Art Deco still so popular? "Art Deco is a period of freedom, prosperity and innovation. After the First World War, people had a visceral need to live again. The austerity of war gave way to joie de vivre , and indulgence became an imperative. The era was punctuated by the Roaring Twenties, the Charleston and the emancipation of women, who freed themselves from the corset and took up smoking. Four years ago, in the post-Covid period, we observed a similar phenomenon in our modern societies; a profound need to revive after successive confinements was expressed. When we look at jewelry, but also fashion or Art Deco haute-couture, this period is clearly synonymous with freedom: dresses are shortened, bracelets and pearls are worn in accumulation, the feathered headband dresses the hair.
