Vanderbilt Sapphire realizes 2'876,000 CHF
The esteemed houses of Christie's, Sotheby's, and Phillips auctioned off extraordinary jewelry treasures last week in Geneva, intended for collectors and jewelry enthusiasts worldwide.
In the wake of watch auctions, some of which have set records, Phillips kicked off the jewelry auctions on Monday, November 10. Under the gavel of Benoît Repellin, the global director of High Jewelry at Phillips, the auction house dispersed some fabulous pieces that once belonged to the Vanderbilt family, alongside other exceptional jewels, including fantastic signed creations. The sale of the Vanderbilt collection reached 3,425,411 CHF, four times its low estimate. Indeed, the Vanderbilt Sapphire (Lot 401), an exceptional Kashmir stone weighing 42.68 carats, mounted on a brooch signed by Tiffany & Co., achieved the highest sale price. This fantastic jewel, estimated between 800,000 CHF and 1,200,000 CHF, ended up reaching 2,876,000 CHF. In the following two days, all eyes turned to the pieces offered by Christie’s, then Sotheby’s, the results of which can be found on the GEM-T website.
