My Dior Weaves Light into Color

A place that has become a symbol for the house over the decades. From this lattice where light filtered through, the couturier made it one of his codes; Victoire de Castellane, on the other hand, chose to transform it into gold. Since 2012, the artistic director of Dior Joaillerie has been translating the caning into a precious mesh for the My Dior line, which she revisits and completes season after season. This summer, the lattice is not content to play with light, it captures and varies it in color. The pattern first opens onto a series of pendants, thin rings that are threaded onto the same chain, in yellow, rose, or white gold, sometimes paved with diamonds. Worn alone or gathered at will, they allow a model to bring together the three golds in one piece, sliding from one tone to another. Underneath the mesh runs a thin gold thread that reflects the brilliance like a mirror: the light here originates from the metal itself, assembled and adjusted by hand, element after element. On other pieces it no longer reflects, but passes through. This is where lacquer comes into play. Applied by hand, layer after layer, in gradient, it dresses a ring and a rose gold bracelet that slide from red to pink, and culminates on a yellow gold cuff punctuated with diamonds, where the color runs the entire spectrum, from reds to blues like a rainbow. A more discreet piece, a white gold paved ear jewel that closes the series, is faithful to the lines of the caning. Each time, the same design: squares and diagonals inherited from the chair have become a support for reflected and colored light. Thus, what was once just a straw interlacing crossed by the sun now sits on the wrist, ears, or neck.
