The house today presents its personal alphabet with Signs & Symbols, a collection of 85 high jewelry creations. Each of these signs tells a story. The star and the comet trace back to the cobblestones of the Aubazine abbey, where the orphan grew up; the lion, her astrological sign, became the emblem of Chanel high jewelry in 2012; the camellia is the geometric flower borrowed from the masculine wardrobe; and finally, the Mediterranean sun that she loved so much. The four converge on the centerpiece, the Imprimé Lion necklace: a cascade of diamonds in V, on rose and white gold, crowned by a 20.66 carat octagonal sapphire, which watches over a lion's head paved with diamonds. Alongside it, the Imprimé Émeraude ring stages a 10.44 carat octagonal emerald between two diamond camellias. The lion, indeed, reigns over an entire family. On the Lion Millénair e necklace, it emerges in bas-relief of diamonds on onyx, on either side of a 6.12 carat ruby. The ring of the same name is a double: one head set with a 9.41 carat oval ruby, the other with a diamond lion on onyx, and one can wear only one. Even more free, a brooch crowns the beast with a mane mixing rubies, sapphires, turquoises and emeralds. The most Chanel statement remains: the talisman. Faithful to Gabrielle, who mixed her most sumptuous ornaments with more modest good-luck charms, the collection sculpts the creator's symbols — the camellia, the star, the sun and the lion — into amulets of hard stones and colored gems. Four Talisman Gabrielle rings thus marry carnelian with camellia, turquoise with lion, onyx with sun, chrysoprase with star; elsewhere, a 26.21 carat imperial topaz, "golden water" that she cherished, crowns a convertible star necklace. "My jewelry represents an idea," she said.
