HIGH JEWELRY - Buccellati, Venice Stitched in Gold

Not that of thread, but of gold. The Milanese house has always held a fascination for the needle lace of Burano, which Mario Buccellati dreamt of translating the lightness and transparency into jewelry. This collection represents the culmination of this dream, but also a tribute to the City of Doges, from Murano glass to Venetian fabrics. The sets read like a map of the lagoon, from Murano to Torcello, from San Giorgio to Giudecca. The gesture here is as much goldsmithing as it is embroidery. With a hand saw, the masters pierce the gold leaf opening after opening, exactly as the lace makers of Burano weave their stitches, until the metal becomes soft enough to mold to the skin. The engraving completes the illusion: tiny leaves chiseled in Modellato, the silky luster of Rigato, these fine parallel stripes that are among the most intimate signatures of the house. The San Giorgio set fully demonstrates this: a yellow gold bib necklace chiseled in lace style, so fluid that it ripples like fabric, where 115 rose-cut diamonds and more than 400 brilliants are added without weighing it down. In white gold, the Murano necklace captures light in all its leaves and garlands thanks to 1,825 brilliants. More regal, a tiara features flowers and branches running over 512 brilliants and 11 pear-cut diamonds, a nod to the splendor of the ancient Republic. Color is subtly introduced. Two Musone rings set the tone: one set with a sapphire of over 10 carats, the other with an intense yellow diamond of 8.08 carats, emerald cut.
