A Cocktail Ring’s Story Bucherer Fine Jewellery
The Bucherer Fine Jewellery atelier in Lucerne has doubled in size. From the gouache rendering to the meticulous selection of precious stones, through to the final polish, the cocktail ring takes us behind the scenes of its creation.
Delicately drawn “My first is… a drawing, a marvel of sensual curves, generous volumes and vibrant colors, produced in Lucerne where, before making my entry into the world, I pass through the hands of 35 artisans in the five departments of the Bucherer Fine Jewellery atelier — the newly refurbished and extended 800-square-metre workshop which occupies an entire floor at the heart of Bucherer’s headquarters, its home since the 1970s. I am welcomed into this contemporary, light-filled space, where the different specializations flow from one to the other. It’s here that I’m brought to life by jewelry designers who capture my forms in a gouache illustration, create a 3D rendering of my contours and perhaps use a wax model to make tiny adjustments to my proportions. This is where my story begins.” /public-objects/0fcd0cf5-ff80-4d85-89cd-7bb392fc7b8e-4555b020-5677-4909-aee1-af1bd83a0ce8-BFJ-Atelier%20Lucerne-Design51920.webp Image sélectionnée The most magnificent gems “Where else to start than with the stones? As early as the 1920s, Louise Bucherer and her daughter-in-law, Wilhelmina, were scouring the globe in search of the most beautiful gems, transforming jewelry’s codes. I can thank them, pioneers in a male-dominated world, for Bucherer’s love of the stones that adorn me: rainbow sapphires, spinels, Paraiba tourmalines yellow diamonds, aquamarines, chrysoberyls, Burmese rubies, and more. Each of my center stones is carefully selected and examined by Bucherer’s gemologists for its quality, cut, origin and the intensity of its color, accentuated by surrounding stones in multiple hues. From the most timeless to the most extravagant, I exist in some forty combinations and three sizes.” /public-objects/4f041597-3ff9-459d-8725-0a0a0b2e8159-c3b6bf15-7df7-465c-8504-bf84991fe876-BFJ-Cocktail%20Rings-Groupshot1920.webp Image sélectionnée Crafted from gold “You’ll find me next on the jeweler’s bench, a band of gold hammered and sculpted into shape, ready to be dressed in a glittering gemstone robe. ‘Our atelier is the only one of its kind in Europe,’ says Robert Ambord, Chief Jewellery Officer. ‘We consider every last detail, such as adjusting the inside of the cocktail ring to ensure a perfect fit. Our jewelry is something that we feel, like a caress against the skin. Always spectacular and always wonderfully comfortable.’ A compliment, indeed!” A sparkling finale “The workshop’s artisans are accomplished in every setting technique, and so here I am, mounted with multi-colored gems around a stunning center stone. In groups of three, the prongs that secure the stones form delicate dots of light. After a final polish, I’m ready to join one of the 45 international boutiques that propose Bucherer Fine Jewellery. Unless, that is, my future wearer should come to me, at the exclusive showroom inside the atelier in Lucerne.” /public-objects/08994f4d-21af-4abf-8dd5-92a55f82260e-b3e29364-255b-4dcb-b7bb-4ffb437c98d9-BFJ-HJ-Cocktail%20Ring-1369-337-7.webp Image sélectionnée
