The Cobra Resumes its Spiral
The cobra, which lends its name to the collection, is recognizable by its coiled shape: a spiral of gold that wraps around the finger, wrist, or ear. After resurrecting it in Venice as a piece of high jewelry, Roberto Coin revives this motif, born in the 1990s, for the thirtieth anniversary of the maison's inception. The snake was then adorned with colored stones on white gold. The fine jewelry pieces, on the other hand, rely on gold and diamonds.
Rings, bracelets and earrings adopt the motif in various sizes. The ring winds around the finger, the bracelet delicately encircles the wrist. The principle remains the same: the serpent's body is made of scales linked one by one, mobile enough for the jewel to instinctively curve around the body. Several thin rings worn on one hand, a wider bracelet on the other... the pieces are designed to be layered... or not. The yellow gold transitions from polished to satin, two finishes that capture and reflect light each in their own way to mimic the reptile's skin. White enamel highlights some scales, diamonds illuminate others. And, true to a house tradition since 1996, a small ruby is set inside, against the skin, invisible once the jewel is worn. This is the precious secret the cobra keeps.
