Cartier Women's Initiative: Twenty Years of Illuminating the Path for Women Changing the World
Beyond the showcases and display cases, Cartier has nurtured a commitment to female entrepreneurship for two decades. In 2026, the Cartier Women's Initiative celebrates its 20th anniversary with a cohort of 30 laureates from 66 countries, and a ceremony scheduled for June 10th in Bangkok.
If Houses are defined by the wonders they create, they also distinguish themselves by what they make possible. At Cartier, this belief has been materialized since 2006 through the Cartier Women's Initiative, a program entirely funded by the House, designed to identify and support female entrepreneurs whose projects provide concrete solutions to the social and environmental challenges of our time. What was initially a competition for scholarships has evolved over 20 years into a true ecosystem. Today, the program brings together more than 520 active members — current and former laureates, mentors, jurors, coaches — from more than 80 countries. In total, 330 entrepreneurs from 66 nations have been supported, and $14.1 million has been distributed in scholarships. https://youtu.be/87jB3FKPrVA "Lighting the Path": An Anniversary Looking Towards the Future For its 20th anniversary, the program has chosen the theme "Lighting the Path", a tribute to women who are paving the way with creativity and conviction. Because that's what it's all about: rewarding individual achievements, but also making a collective movement visible. As Cyrille Vigneron, president of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy, summarizes: "The best thing we can do in the business world is to give women the means to act." The strength of the Cartier Women's Initiative lies in its holistic approach. In addition to the financial endowment — $100,000 for the first prize in each category, $60,000 and $30,000 for the second and third places — each class benefits from a one-year support program structured in three stages. First, communication and positioning workshops, then an intensive week at INSEAD as part of the "Women's Impact Entrepreneurship" program, and finally, personalized coaching complemented by a mental well-being component. A rare setup in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, made possible by the commitment of a house that has made women's emancipation a component of its identity. Thirty laureates, 10 prizes, one shared momentum The 2026 edition recognizes 30 laureates divided among nine regional awards, and the "Science & Technology Pioneer Award", established in 2021 to specifically highlight scientific and technological innovations led by women. The award ceremony will be held on 10 June 2026, in Bangkok. The profiles selected this year illustrate the diversity and depth of the program. In Mexico, Cristina Campero Peredo uses artificial intelligence to screen for preventable blindness with her platform Prosperia, which has already examined over 150,000 patients. In the United Arab Emirates, Vriko Yu is restoring coral reefs using 3D printed tiles with Archireef, showing a coral survival rate of 95% after three years. In France, Dali Rashid, with Genomines, is developing a method of producing nickel from plants, a low environmental impact alternative to conventional mining for electric vehicle batteries. For the first time this year, the program is highlighting an entrepreneur from Nepal. Prakriti Gautam, at the helm of Khetipati Organics, collaborates with indigenous communities to transform agricultural surpluses into value-added products, thus creating stable income for more than 1,600 small-scale farmers. The Cartier DNA, Beyond the Product The Cartier Women's Initiative is part of a larger story, that of a house where women have always held a central role: from Jeanne Toussaint, the legendary artistic director, to the female clientele who helped shape Cartier's identity. By launching this program 20 years ago, the brand was one of the first in the luxury sector to place its support for female entrepreneurship at the heart of its commitments, long before the topic became an expected marker of CSR in major houses. The numbers speak for themselves. Among the laureates of recent editions, 76% have increased their revenues and 44% have penetrated new markets since the end of the program. Most notably, 66% of the businesses supported since 2006 are still operational, an impressive rate in the start-up universe. At the end of their year of support, 97% of the 2024 laureates reported greater self-confidence and 94% reported an improvement in their leadership skills. The Next Step The call for applications for the 2027 edition is already open, from the 16th April to the 16th June 2026. Thirty new visionaries will be selected and celebrated next year, perpetuating a virtuous cycle where each cohort strengthens the community as a whole. This is undoubtedly one of the most significant achievements of the program: to have built, stone by stone, a global network of female leaders who support each other and whose impact far exceeds the scope of their own enterprise. www.cartierwomensinitiative.com
