The Camellia in all its glory
Among all flowers, Gabrielle Chanel chose the camellia. Neither fragrant nor thorny, it was the flower's round shape and petals arranged in a regular spiral that captivated the designer.
As early as 1913, she made it one of her emblems, pinning it to her jacket, drawing inspiration from men's boutonnières. Camélia Bloom is the most open, and the most spectacular version. It is a bib necklace that displays the signature motif across several rows of gold chains cascading down the décolleté, punctuated by small camellias set with diamonds, and converging on a central openwork flower, entirely paved, which alone brings together 97 diamonds. Two versions are available, in yellow or white gold. In another style, Bouton de Camélia captures the flower before it blooms, with its petals still closed over the heart. The line introduces rose gold for the first time, a warmer and softer tone, which rounds off the relief of the motif. It spreads across a series of diamond-set pieces: ring, pendant necklace, and stud earrings or, more generously, earrings climbing up the ear, as well as two flexible models, a choker and a bracelet, where small camellias are scattered between two fine chains on either side of a larger flower. Finally, the Extrait de Camélia brings the flower back to its simplest expression: a camellia that closes over a single diamond at its center, surrounded by small gold camellias held one by one by two gold chains. Already known in ring, necklace, and earring forms, for the first time the line is worn on the wrist, in a flexible bracelet in rose gold or yellow gold.
